I get asked all of the time, "Do you do cover-ups?" The answer is a resounding yes! Yup, I sure do. In fact, all of the talented artists at this shop are skilled in the art of cover-ups, each bringing their unique style and expertise to the table. Covering up an existing tattoo can be a transformative experience, and we take pride in helping our clients achieve the results they desire.
When tattoos age, they often carry a mix of nostalgia and regret. While many of us cherish the memories associated with our tattoos, there are instances when it's time to bid farewell to a design that no longer resonates with us. This could be due to various reasons: perhaps it features an ex's name that brings back unwanted memories, or maybe it’s a matching design with a friend who is no longer part of your life. Additionally, tastes evolve over time, and what once seemed like a perfect choice may no longer reflect your current interests or identity. In such cases, a cover-up can be an excellent option, allowing you to turn the page and embrace a new chapter in your life.

There are several key factors to consider when creating a successful cover-up tattoo. First and foremost, the new design typically needs to be at least twice the size of the original tattoo. This is important because it allows for sufficient coverage and helps to obscure the old ink effectively. Additionally, the new tattoo usually should be designed with bold colors to ensure a successful transformation. While there are instances where black and gray can work, it largely depends on the specific design and placement of both the old and new tattoos. Our artists are adept at assessing these factors to determine the best approach for each individual case.
It's also worth noting that sometimes the cover-up tattoo may require touch-ups down the line, especially if the old tattoo begins to peek through the new design. This is a common occurrence, and we want our clients to feel confident in their new ink. If the cover-up tattoo was done at our shop, we are more than happy to provide touch-up services at no additional cost, ensuring that you leave with a piece you can be proud of.

Cover-up tattoos are not just about concealing the past; they represent a fresh start and an opportunity to reinvent your personal style. They can embody new meanings, reflect your current passions, or simply be a beautiful piece of art that you love. If you are ever considering this option but are unsure where to start, we encourage you to reach out to us. Our consultations are free and can be scheduled from Tuesday through Saturday at our Mays Landing location, only about 5 miles from the Hamilton Mall.
